hello! my name is alex, I write, edit, and educate.

I get excited about finding new ways to engage with the next generation, and I am fascinated by the intersections of education and media. I am also passionate about reshaping existing narratives around what it means to live sustainably.

currently, I am an associate editor at Scholastic where I work on classroom magazines for middle schoolers. when I'm not there, I am a freelance writer covering eco-friendly living and family lifestyle.

I earned my B.A in communications from the University of Michigan - Dearborn and my M.A in journalism from New York University. over the past seven years, I've created content via print, digital, and multimedia platforms for brands like: Sesame Street, Time Out New York Kids, Martha Stewart Living, Saveur, Departures, THINX and more.

here are some other memorable life experiences you may not find on my resume:
  • in 2019, I hosted a workshop about "zero waste living" for a local sustainable non-profit (you can find more of my tips on greener living here)
  • I've spent a collective 4+ years working with children in various capacities including: teaching at an all-girls STEAM summer camp, nannying, volunteering at a montessori, tutoring, and helping kids learn how to golf (it's tricky)
  • in 2018, I lived on a tiny farm in maine for a week to learn about organic farming
  • lifelong enthusiastic home cook and crafty homebody
  • first paid writing gig: blogging for a dating app
